Prior to the events of Series 6, Patel was stationed to the Patrol Unit based out of Hillside Lane Station.

Patel, along with PC Ryan Pilkington are instructed to transport Terry Boyle from Hillside Lane Station to his bail approved premises. En route, Pilkington informs her that for security purposes the route has been altered, and directs her to a small road near Edge Park Reservoir. He also requests that his window is rolled down to he can get some fresh air. The unsuspecting Patel is then attacked by Pilkington, who grabs the back of her neck and forces control of the car, sending it crashing into the water.
Pilkington escapes out the open window, but is dismayed to see that Patel and Boyle have also survived. Running back into the water, he grapples with Patel and holds her head underwater, drowning her. DI Kate Fleming arrives on scene just after this takes place, with Pilkington lying to her and stating that Patel is still in the submerged vehicle. Her body is later pulled ashore by police divers after the Murder Investigation Team has set up a crime scene around the reservoir.
